Religious difference is a thin line only

Watch this video about how the Ethopian King who happens to be a Christian protects the Muslims. This is what religion suppose to teach us, tolerance and acceptance of differences and not egoism to claim that ones religion is superior than the other. What ignorance in the name of religion!

Building National Harmony

I tried to write what my other half requested about love, mixed marriage and all that stuff but failed misreably as found no inspiration...oops pls don't tell her.I am back to my political perspective. I read something interesting in Malaysiakini.
Today Malaysiakini quoted some 1,500 people - including 400 children - from a group of 20 Malay organisations joined the two-hour gathering which kicked off at 9am in Polo Ground, outside Sri Mutiara, the official residence of the Penang governor. Many teenagers at the gathering carried banners with slogans written in both Malay and Jawi such as 'Kesabaran Melayu Ada Batas' (Malays' Patience Has Limits), 'Jangan Hina Nabi Muhammad SAW' (Don't Insult Nabi Muhammad), 'Jangan Pertikaikan ISA' (Don't Dispute ISA). 'Kekebalan Raja Raja Dipertahankan' (Defend the Royal Immunity), and 'Jangan Pertikaikan Hak Orang Melayu' (Don't Dispute Malay Rights).
Other banners included 'Melayu dan Mamak Bersatu' (United Malays and Indian Muslims) and 'Jangan Ulang 13 Mei' (Don't Repeat May 13).
In the first place did they get any permit to march? Didn’t the Penang OCPD who was very active in stopping the Jerit participants mainly children some time ago didn’t even lift his pinky finger on this issue? Isn’t the NGO’s misusing the children for their own agenda? I guess he may have not received any instruction from the higher authority or he did and followed religiously!
Let’s ponder on the banners for a while: aren’t they instigating racial tension? Where is our great Internal Minister who was too quick to issue ISA detention letter for some earlier, yet now not even a whisper? Aren’t these people inciting racial tension by mentioning “ Don’t repeat May 13”. If this does not warrant any arrest, am not sure what does? I personally like the “ Melayu dan Mamak Bersatu”, as this is definitely news to me.

I must have missed some facts as to why no arrest was made until I read in Malaysiakini that those seen at the gathering were Umno Bukit Mertajam division leader Musa Sheikh Fadzir and Tanjung Umno deputy leader Raja Munir Shah Raja Mustapha. That explains, doesn’t it why neither arrest nor FRU were deployed.

Interview with my other half

Since I started to blog, I found one of my wishes came true and I get an adrenaline rush whenever I post my thoughts. After a while I thought what would be my wife’s thought if she were to pen hers, hence I decided to interview her of several current issues that is going on in Malaysia.

Avathar: How do you feel about your husband blogging?
Kavi: First of all I had a shock of my life when my husband told that he wants to blog initially. I thought he was kidding and not serious until he showed me his blog. I cannot believe that my husband has a dream to write to express his thoughts about the current issues. I also noticed that he spends more time on the internet than with me.

Avathar: How does that make you feel when your husband spends more time on the internet?
Kavi: I felt neglected and left out, because that is the only time that I have with him before I retire for the day. That doesn’t mean that I am stopping my husband from writing in his blog as I understand that this is one of his passions. Just to be save!

Avathar: How do you view the current political scenario in Malaysia?
Kavi: Sad, to me it is like we are not heading nowhere, BN is doing everything possible to hold on to their position and the opposition is trying to proof that its time for change. At the end of the day what I can see is that the people of Malaysia will be the victims and it may create instability which will in turn drive away the investors. At this juncture we the people of Malaysia will suffer and not the politicians.

Avathar: Don’t you think that we need to change as the politics are race based and certain fraction propagates one particular race being superior to another?
Kavi: With a smile, she avoided the question went on to giggle and said, are you getting me in trouble and I don’t want the police to come after me.

Avatahar: Do you think Anwar will become the next PM?
Kavi: Anything is possible as majority of Malaysian expect Anwar to bring hope and aspiration of the rakyat. Furthermore it’s about time for change as for the 50 years we have been governed on racial lines.

Avathar : Who will win in the KT by election?
Kavi: Is there a by election coming? He.he.he….Don’t know and don’t care! Enough with the questions. Boring political issues, why not write something interesting i.e mixed marriages for a change. It is more practical and interesting for your readers!

Who is behind Sime Darby?

Sime Darby has been very much in the news with its proposed take over of IJN and a proposed new low-cost carrier airport in Negri Sembilan. Interesting why is that Sime Darby so interested in hospital care and airport management. Both are not its core business, some may remember that Sime was divesting and later came back to its core business. Is it another phase of diversings its business again? More so our beloved DPM and future PM said he has not qualms of Sime Darby taking over IJN!
Let’s look close on who is exactly behind Sime Darby? According to its 2008 Annual Report, its substantial shareholders are:
• Skim Amanah Saham Bumiputera - 34%
• EPF - 14%
• PNB - 15%
• Yayasan Pelaburan Bumiputera - 15% (deemed interest) ( source Anilnetto)
So basically we are talking about a government-linked corporation and groups managing public money here. Guess who are its Board of directors? Its Board of Directors are made up of:
• Tun Musa Hitam (Independent Non-Executive Chairman)
• Tun Dato’ Seri Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid (Non-Independent Non-Executive Deputy Chairman)
• Dr. Arifin Mohamad Siregar (Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Wan Mohd. Zahid Mohd. Noordin (Non-Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Ahmad Tajuddin Ali (Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Datuk Seri Panglima Sheng Len Tao (Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Raja Dato‘ Seri Arshad Raja Tun Uda (Senior Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Dato’ Henry Sackville Barlow (Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Dato’ Mohamed Sulaiman (Non-Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Dato’ Dr. Abdul Halim Ismail (Non-Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Datin Paduka Zaitoon Dato’ Othman (Non-Independent Non-Executive Director)
• Dato’ Seri Ahmad Zubair @ Ahmad Zubir Haji Murshid (President & Group Chief Executive)
There you go again, do you smell the rat? I wish I knew some one in Putrajaya…sob…sob!

Hudud Law

PAS, in its push to have hudud laws introduced if the opposition coalition takes power, has upped the ante on its partners by challenging the DAP to give its reasons for its objections as published in STAR.
What is wrong with hudud law? I think it is the right of the Musalmans offenders to be punished according to Islamic law and the non-muslims under the civil and british lawlah!
Why is this an issue for the non-muslims and DAP? Are we afraid of such law? Non-Muslim will not come under the purview of Islamic Law unless PAS is planning to impose it upon the non-muslims then you got reason to shoutloh. I support 100% if Hudud law is to be imposed on the Malays, sorry the Malaysian Muslims, they got more reasons to worry and boycott than the non-muslims.
Just listen to Kairy an UMNO Ultra leader who is a Muslim yet he is not sokonging hudud. He was quoted in STAR,Khairy disagreed with the hudud implementation suggestion and said that the present status quo should stay. So what does this means, simple lah they do not support? There you go, even practicing Muslims do not agree with PAS!.
Husam another top gun of PAS said non-Muslim voters in Kuala Terengganu should not be unduly worried over his statements on hudud laws. Speaking to reporters at the PAS headquarters here yesterday, Husam said the Barisan Nasional was using scare tactics to frighten voters. There you go why fear of Hudud when it doesn’t apply to the non-muslims. Let the muslims in this country settle this issues as it is their own to settle.
What I don’t understand is the Gerakan was asking for DAP & Pakatan on their stand on Hudud Law, shouldn’t they ask their master also UMNO on their stand? Wonder what will be their answer? Datuk Seri…apakah pendapat Datuk seri berkenaan isu ini? ( Translated: What is your opinion on this issue Datuk Seri?)

Jerit Again

I am posting this mail which i received from Suaram, the insight story from one of the Jerit Coordinators.

A day that saw an incident free day of cycling took a turn at Rawang . We arrived in Rawang at about 4.30pm. We were supposed to meet up with YB ADUN Rawang, Gan Pei Nei at Rawang Jaya . She and her delegation planned to cycle with the JERIT convoy from there to Rawang town.

But a roadblock greeted us at Rawang . As usual the police requested for names and IC of all the cyclist and coordinator. We intervened and told the police that it is not necessary to record names and addresses of all cyclist as we have a list that we can give it to them. After much argument we took back all the IC of the cyclist and gave the coordinators IC to record . Myself ,Sugu, Saras,Rani ,Mohan gave our IC to be recorded . The IC were returned after recording. But my IC changed hands to another officer .

Soon the police received new directions. The bus was to held and myself and the coordinators were asked to come to the balai . Eventhough we managed to get the cyclist to continue to cycle , but they were stopped again further ahead . As the cyclist met up YB Gan Pei Nei group , they were stopped from cycling to town . After some negotiations by Gan Pei Nei , the convoy proceeded into town . They cycled around Rawang town and stopped at a coffee shop for a drink .

Myself ,Sugu and Saras made our way to the balai polis . At the balai , Saras immediately checked on the 7 junior cyclist in the bus that was brought in to the balai . The police were already intimidating the children, asking them questions. Some officers also asked the cyclist if Dr.Kumar had paid them money to participate in the campaign. They harassed the cyclist who were in the bus . Saras and Sugu intervened and chased out the officers from the bus .

I met up with Gan Pei Nei who then arrived at the balai . We went over to see the OCPD , Abdul Rahim . He was asking the same stupid questions ,whether did we get a permit to cycle. He said ,it does not matter if other OCPD have allowed the cyclist , but we supposedly should have seeked his permission in his district .OCPD instructed all the bicyclist to be brought to the balai . We objected and said that we have given all the names and there was no need to have any statements taken .

Later the OCPD instructed statements to be taken from all the 7 cyclist that were already in the bus. He said that he wanted to verify if there were under aged children being abused . I followed them. Informed the officers that they cannot take statement, and we will not give statement . The cyclist will only give their details only .

Soon all the cyclist were already brought in the balai . Dr.Kumar arrived shortly . I and Dr.Kumar met up with the OCPD . He still insisted that he wanted to take statements from all the cyclist. We showed him that we have consent letters from all the parents . We gave the police a copy . After much negotiations ,we agreed poiice to record details of all the cyclist accompanied by us . As this was going on , I was taken by the OCPD to his room . He explained that he still considered that the event was a procession . He confirmed that I will be charged under Section 27 of the police Act' illegal assembly'. Kumar also had his statements taken later . At this moment , we were quite sure that all will be released after giving the details to the police . This was when matters took a turn ,
when the Selangor CPO arrived , Dato Khalid .

Immediately the CPO ,OCPD and other officers went for taklimat. About an hour later the CPO arrogantly came down and announced that all 50 cyclist and all the 15 coordinators will be arrested . We were gathered at the parking lot. They put a yellow tape around us .All those below 18 years old were separated from the seniors .

By this time a crowd of supporters were already swelling outside the balai . A candle light vigil began . Makkal Sakti slogans and songs were sung . There were also PKR , DAP and PAS members . The police made arrangements for the welfare officers to take the junior cyclist away .They would be then handed 'safely' to their parents.

The police went all out to harass us . Edmund Bon , lawyer informed us that the police were going to expel the permit and the driving licences of all the lorry drivers and bas driver. JPJ officials also arrived. They examined the bus , lorry , looking for something to issue summon on .The driving licences and road tax of the lorry and bus were taken away .

As protest outside gathered momentum , a complete battalion of FRU ,Water cannon arrived . The crowd outside carried on chanting and demanding for our release. As they were about to use the water cannon, the rain poured heavily. The police did not use the water cannon .

As rain kept pouring heavily , the car park where all of us who were being detained began flooding . All of us were standing cold in a river of water . We demanded to be shifted out of the parking lot . As usual the police buat tak tahu . Tempers flared . I moved to rip of the yellow police tape and walk out of the parking lot . The rest followed. A fight
pursued between us and the police as they were trying to push us back into the parking lot and we were moving out . The officers couldn't stop us . The Light Strike Force rushed in . They pushed us back with their shield and batons .

The CPO looked and couldn't do anything . Immediately the police brought all the cyclist below 18 years of age into a dry place at the balai meeting room upstairs .

As this was happening , we were also amazed at the 300 0ver crowd outside that stood in the heavy rain and did not budge . FRU cordoned the police station entrance . The welfare officers couldn't find a place to take the junior cyclist , thus they stayed at the meeting room . The junior cyclist told the police they refuse being brought away by the welfare officers and they rather remain arrested with the others

At about 2 am , I and Kumar were given the bail sheets . Soon the rest were being taken details and issued bail sheets . Some comrades spent the nite with the junior cyclist at the balai meeting room . At about 3.30 am all walked out of the balai polis Rawang . It was a eventful nite .

Sivarajan .

Jerit, Jerit,Jerit!

Recently you may have read about how the police stopped a team of more than 50 riders in Jerit's ‘Ride for Change' campaign in Rawang yesterday in order to "save under-aged cyclists" from being exploited.

The Selangor police Chief Khalid Abu Bakar said that they detained the children for taking part in an illegal procession and upon checkeing their details, 28 were found to be under the age of 18...clearly this violates the Child Act as some are only 15 years old,"

"When giving their statements, these children said they did not know why they were asked to participate in the cycling event," he told reporters at the Rawang police station last night. He also said the police had contacted their parents to take them home and would investigate whether the children had received permission to take part in the event. Khalid also told reporters that the teenagers were confused about the purpose of the expedition.

"As for the children, we have actually saved them from being misused and exploited by irresponsible people... we did not arrest them."
Wow here is one true civil servant who saves lives!

Now let’s hear from the organizers Jerit. The movement, in a statement, said that the state's top cop Khalid Abu Bakar had "lied and misled" the public on the actual situation with his statements. This is a strong call!
Jerit responded by saying that all the under-aged cyclists had parental consent to take part in the cycling campaign. "The children actually refused to say anything to the police officers as they did not want to cooperate with the police as they are being detained illegally.

"The children were also questioned by police whether they were paid to do this. What was the police trying to show with these kind of questions?" asked the movement.
Jerit also said that it had been very responsible in taking care of the cyclists' welfare since day one. Jerit pointed out that the police on the other hand had failed to provide the children with shelter from rain last night while they were kept at the Rawang police station. And when they (the children) tried to find shelter, the Light Strike Force threatened and intimidated them.

"They were not given food until 11pm at night and that too only after so much of pressure," added the Jerit statement. Jerit also said that Khalid had failed to mention that the children were arrested without the presence of any officers from the Welfare Department. "Children are not supposed be kept overnight in the police station, but the police kept them there the whole night. How is that for breaking laws?" questioned Jerit.

Even then, the parents were not allowed to fetch their children without hassle, added Jerit. When the parents arrived at the police station, they were not allowed in, and then police insisted on taking statement from each parent before releasing their children. "Isn't this a violation? Why do the parents need to give statement? The parents protested and refused to give statement to police and demanded for their children. The police were causing more trauma and agony to the parents of the children," added Jerit in the statement.
This is what some of the cyclist have to say about their ordeal! Fifteen-year-old cyclist S Thivyakumar lambasted the cops for thinking that the teenagers were “too young” to take care of themselves and join Jerit's campaign.

“They keep asking us whether we know why we are here... of course we do!” he exclaimed. “We are here to fight for a better life... and we are not young children that every time we want to go to the toilet, one of them has to accompany us,” he said.
Another cyclist M Ravindran similarly stated that they were well-aware of the objectives of the campaign. The riders also claimed that the police did not care when they got wet during heavy rain yesterday. According to them, the area where they were incarcerated - before they were moved into the police station later in the night - had began flooding due to the downpour. “We ran out as it started flooding but the police and the FRUs forced us back in there,” said 16-year-old Danny. “They then put a yellow tape around the area to keep us in,” said Danny. How considerate the police force in cordoning that area with yellow tape to avoid the criminals from escaping.
Only in Malaysia, Malaysia Boleh! Malaysian you make up your mind how Malaysia is becoming a police state under the present government. It looks like there is no end for discrimination in this country!

What Financial Crisis?

FLIP-FLOPPING FAIRY TALES - MALAYSIA WILL NOT HAVE 3.9%
GROWTH IN 2009 ACCEPTING REALITY IS NOT PESSIMISM, GIVING FALSE HOPES IS NOT OPTIMISM - MATHIAS

I received this mail with the above title from a friend of mine from Kuala Lumpur!

Let’s put some money in our mouths. In the past I have challenged those who disagreed with me, that if they can prove me wrong, I would gladly pay them a RM5,000 in cash reward. There were no takers and none could prove me wrong!

In the past few days, the mass media have gone out of the way to interview politicians and the Governor of Bank Negara to project a rosy picture that somehow our economy will overcome the severe pain and disruption from the on-going global financial tsunami.
I am willing to take on anyone from the Badawi regime and Bank Negara that by FY09 Q1, the KLCI will drop below 700. If I am wrong in my analysis, I will pay the first five individuals from the said Badawi regime and or Bank Negara the sum of RM5,000.
These five individuals must within a week register at my website that they are willing to take me on in this challenge. They have to provide their full name and address in accordance with their NRIC/MyKad and their designation. If they lose to me, they must pay me the same amount!

Fellow citizens, don’t listen to the Badawi regime’s fairy tales. Prepare for the worst and the worst is yet to come. You owe it to your family. The best way to save our family and our country is to be prepared for all eventualities. We must tighten our belts, save for the stormy days that will surely come and not spend, spend as advocated by the Badawi regime’s ministers. Use common sense. What do you tell your children as responsible parents when the family is going through hard times ~ spend, spend, spend or be thrifty, thrifty, and thrifty?

Remember the flight safety rules when flying ~ when the oxygen mask falls from the overhead compartment, you are to wear the mask first before attending to your children.
If you cannot save yourself, you are not in a position to save anyone. This is a fundamental principle of survival for everyone when a plane is about to crash! Apply the same principle to economic woes and we will all be saved.

Here are my warnings for 2009:

1) By 2nd half of next year, the automobile industry will go into a tailspin and suffer massive losses.
2) By second half of next year, credit card debts will soar, credit limits will be drastically reduced (worse than 1997/1998) and interest rates on outstanding will increase sharply. It is already happening!
3) By 2nd Half of next year, shipping rates will drop drastically and this is also happening. Our ports and shipping companies will suffer.
4) By 2nd Half of next year, our housing market bubble will burst notwithstanding all the stimulus and pump-priming. Arab investors will not be coming. Dubai and Abu Dhabi is already in a financial / property gridlock! Why would they come here when they have to save their own asses?
5) By 2nd Half of next year, our exporters will be in tears, when Letters of Credit (L/Cs) will not be honoured and inventory stacks up at ports and in factory premises. Chinese exporters are already stipulating which LCs from which global banks will only be accepted.
6) By 2nd Half of next year, FELDA settlers will also be in tears. Having spent their windfall early this year (because of Badawi regime’s false optimism), their savings will be down and they will bleed.
7) By the 3rd Quarter of next year, corporate NPLs will shoot up! Relaxing mark-to-market rules will not help. Malaysia will have a huge immigration problem when these hardworking people are thrown out of work and have to compete with the swelling ranks of Malaysian unemployed. In the meantime capital outflows will continue. Let’s see whether the statement that Malaysia has more than enough reserves (since according to Bank Negara, we need only have US$30 to US$40 billion reserves) will provide sufficient confidence to foreign investors to continue to invest in Malaysia. You can call the above observations – rubbish, pessimism, gloom and doom etc. but that won’t change reality. Pause and think. In my previous warnings and alerts, I have stated that by the latest ~ the 1st quarter of 2009, things will get ugly and scary! If I am not right, why did the leaders of the just concluded G-20 summit in Washington, in their so-called “Action Plan” stipulated that their policies, remedies etc. must be implemented by the end of the 1st Quarter 2009?

My articles were all written BEFORE THE SUMMIT and obviously I have no control over the leaders of G-20. So ask yourself “Why Oh Why Must the First Action Plan Be Implemented by the First Quarter of 2009? This is only the first tentative steps by the G-20 leaders and there is no guarantee that the measures will work. The original Bretton Woods initiatives took almost two years to be formalised and put to work. There is no magic wand to be wielded by the leaders for instant cure. It will be a long hard grind. In the meantime, more shits will hit the ceiling fan. That is a given!

I hope the Badawi Regime and Bank Negara are not accusing the G-20 leaders and Obama’s financial and economic advisers as being pessimists! You be the judge!

I disagree with Mathias as this is not what our DPM who is an economic major by the way and the Governor of Bank Negara is saying, read my lips “Our Fundamentals are Right so No Worries”. Who is Mathias compared to these power house in economics, even USA,UK and Japan need to take lessons from them. Why you may ask? Malaysia is not affected by this crisis but the other nations are! Both of them can give lectures overseas and generate some revenue for our country like Bill Clinton! What say you?

Saudara Baru

A friend of mine sent me this mail to be posted in my blog, interesting piece for your reading pleasure.

"Its funny now when I recollect my experience as a new convert to Islam, I was told by the Ustaz whom performed the ceremony that " Do not follow the Malays but follow the Koran". I did not understand then what it meant as I brushed aside his advice at that time in ignorance.

After looking at the events that are unfolding in Malaysia, I am beginning to understand what the Ustaz meant. In Malaysia it is a fallacy that Malays equal to Muslim, what is being practiced by the Malays is not what propagated by the prophet ( pbuh) or according to the Koran. I am not saying that there aren’t any Malays who are following the teachings as it is, as I know many who do so. The more I read the Quran, the more I understand how it is been practiced. Raja Petra wrote ' My god is different from your god" in Malaysia-today on how he viewed Islam being practiced by some in Malaysia.

I am in the position to understand better how the non-muslims are feeling of the Malays and Islam at large as far as Malaysia is concerned. They are not against Islam but they are against every form of discrimination and falsehood been practiced as Islamic in Malaysia. A Malay Muslim in Malaysia can say anything and everything about the non-muslim and it is totally acceptable but not so for non-muslim as they can’t even hold a forum to discuss about “Conversion to Islam” it is a crime against Islam and they feel that the non-muslims are challenging Islam or even more the Malays. Isn’t this isn’t double standard than what is, I have every right to voice my opinions and my disagreement but you can’t even hold a forum to discuss about your issues or problems. Islam is a peaceful religion and we are showing to the non-muslims and the whole world how peaceful we are in our conduct.

I bet many Malay-Muslim will never understand the predicament of non-muslims in this country because they have never been on the other side neither willing to sit down at the same table to discuss. I grew up in a Malay kampong when I was young and I was treated with more respect by the Malay folks even when I was practicing a different faith and they would come over during the festive season to enjoy the feast and they were very much a Muslim but that has changed now as it is considered to be un-islamic even to visit a house of a non-believer! How sad that some religious bigots has influenced the minds of the Malays over the years. Non-muslim will always be skeptical about Islam and Muslim in this country as long as the Malays behave the same manner as what we shown to the non-muslims than what is taught in the Quran. It hurts me more to see that how it is distorted by some and mis-understood by many.

May I quote Surah Al-Nahl, Ayat 125: ‘Invite (all) to the Way of the Lord with wisdom and beautiful discourse; and argue with them in ways that are best and most gracious: for the Lord knoweth best, who have strayed from His Path, and who receive guidance.’
To be respected, respect other first, try to understand before being understood and I truly wish the Muslims in Malaysia to take stock of our deeds as we are answerable during the judgment day. Are we true Muslims? Whatever we do, Allah knows it all!"

There you go!

Why the Malays have failed?

Why the Malays are deemed to have been left behind compared to the other races in Malaysia? The UMNO politician will fight teeth to teeth in arguing that affirmative action is a necessity to help bridge the yawning gap in socio-economic situation between the Malays and non-malays. They even claim that an average Malaysian Indian earns more than the Malay. So they claim!
Let’s take a look at this claim, I do not have any statistics unlike the government yet mine is through observation. (Qualitative approach mah!).
To start with UMNO is the largest BN component party with the largest member and majority Ministers in the cabinet are Malays. Secondly the majority of Member of Parliament in the Parliament is also Malays. Most if not all of the government department is also headed by them and yet they say that the Malays are left behind.

How about the Government Linked Companies, most of the CEO/GM, Chairman and top level management are Malays? They’ll boycott if a non-malay were to hold an acting role until a suitable Malay leader is found like the PKNS fiasco. Most or all of the public Universities are headed by Malay Vice Chancellors and head of faculties are also them. How about Professorship and scholarship offered to do PHD! Is it not them who take priority? I could be wrong though!

The NEP is meant for the Malays and yet they could not make the 30% target for the past 50 years. Interesting! How about places in matriculation which is mainly to assist the Malay student to receive tertiary education without doing form six like the non-malay students. They even have UITM solely for the Malay students! How about AP’s given to Malay businessman even some do not have showroom to run an automobile business.

Why do they still fail? I guess this is not enough more need to be done to ensure that the Malays are successful and to be equal to the rest of the race.

World Class England or is it Ingerris!

I read this article in Patrick Teoh’s blog and find it both hilarious and embarrassing! Read and you’ll know why?

Alright, let's try and talk about this in a constructive way. No racist remarks, no disloyal comments, totally objective. Can? Alright.

Bahasa Malaysia is OUR national language. We are all proud of it. We are, or should and must be, proficient in it. It is our unifying bond as a nation.

Bahasa Malaysia is NOT an international language. We NEED to be fluent in an international language if we are to really become participating citizens of this Global Village.

English is an international language. Malaysians must be fluent in English to compete globally.

It is NOT true that Malaysians are fluent in English.

It is NOT true that learning English will corrode our sovereignty, our loyalty, our Malaysian-ness our unity as a nation, our loyalty as Malaysians.

It is NOT true that Malaysian children can become fluent in English if fed on a 45-minute per week diet of English lessons in schools.

Okay, I hope that I have established the parameters of this playing field. I would like to show you a page from the official website (English) of the National Registration Department or Jabatan Pendaftaran Negara Malaysia...

If I can how many rates imposed? Yes. With payment RM2.00 and new address information would be updated inside chip. If you want change identity card one time, the charge is RM10.00 .

8. Is it NRD receive payment other than cash ? Yes, NRD comply accept payment electronically namely via credit card, card debit and MEPS. However, there were limit minimum sum accept to payment via credit card there is as many as RM 50.0

And this is the website of a major Government department you know. Still believe that we can teach Malaysian children English on 45 minutes a week?I guess this is one “ Malaysia Boleh” aspiration while the whole world move forward we move backward. I guess it is law of relativity or is it quantum physics!Emmmmm....

Muhkriz Fiassco

The call by Mukhriz Mahathir to close down the vernacular schools drew many critics from both politician and the public. I guess he is making sense about having a consolidated school in order to bring about national unity.

Some say that the call by Mukhriz to close down vernacular schools is very irrational and racial in tone. Some call it as revenge against MCA, Gerakan leaders for openly condemning the issues of Ketuanan Melayu and to fish for more votes in the coming Umno elections.

If this is an issue of polarization or social integration I would fully agree with Mukhriz call about racial unity and let's go all out to promote racial unity and do away with everything that has racial connotations.

First we shall abolish the vernacular schools and send all our children to a national type school. Let’s abolish UiTM because it does not promote national unity and also do away with the quota system for enrolment into Malaysian public universities. How about opening up MARA College, Matriculation and all boarding schools to non Malay students as well? Since now the schools are integrated non Malay principals must also head the new integrated schools in the name of unity. How about the Universities, from the Vice Chancellors to head of faculties or lecturers shouldn’t they be selected based on merit and not by the colour of their skin and race?

Every student should take the same exam, either all take STPM or matriculation exam. This will eliminate dissatisfaction among students since matriculation examinations are perceived to be easier compared to STPM. Students should not be coded by race by their exam paper serial numbers to be fair in the marking scheme as we have heard so many horror stories. Worst still in the universities where students from certain race are made to pass the exam when they fail!

I hope that the elite residential schools, as well as the Mara Junior Science Colleges will then open their doors to the Chinese and Indian students. We should also open the MARA, Petronas, TNB and other special privileged scholarship to the non Malays
Let’s do one better how about doing away with race-based affirmative action policies such as the 30% bumiputra participation policy and the 30 % equity ownership? The government should promote meritocracy for all position, promotion and by the way let’s allow PKNS managed by a Chinese or anyone capable.

By the way Umno kids enrolled in international schools should withdrew with immediate effect attend government schools more so by our Education Minister to show leadership by example. There you go Muhkriz, this is a good start for your aspiring political career. Not bad for a visionary leader, like father like son I guess! Way to go Muhkriz!

Ketuanan Melayu Again

Recently MCA deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek came under fire from the UMNO leaders about his statement last week that he’ll accepted Malay leadership and not Ketuanan Melayu!
The usual reaction of UMNO is to talk down on others saying that do not challenge nor question UMNO cum Malay supremacy. What did Dr.Chua said that make the UMNO leaders angry and such lose their sleep?
The Umno leaders have lashed out at Dr Chua, pointing out to him that Ketuanan Melayu was not a joke to be taken lightly more so the Umno-owned Mingguan Malaysia also ran a banner headline today with the words "Do not question" (Ketuanan Melayu). This is what the so called Malaysian Leaders has to say;
Umno Youth chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein ( kerismuddin) as saying that "it is better that BN component party leaders join the opposition if they want to drag up history and facts." Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar ( yes the botak fella) : "Other communities should stop criticising the concept of Malay Supremacy because it is not a joke to be taken lightly."
Dr Chua's argument was that a more equitable power sharing in BN as he mentioned that “ "We accept Malay leadership and not Malay Supremacy”. He further added that "BN parties will do well if it starts to champion national and not just racial issues," and BN parties must think as Malaysians now because issues which affect any single community affect all Malaysians as well.
So, what is wrong with Dr.Chua’s statement?
When we say “ Ketuanan Melayu” doesn’t it mean as assertion of a master-servant relationship namely between Umno and other BN component parties or does it mean the relationship between the Malays and non-malays then! Does this mean that the non-malays are considered inferior than the Malays?
Let’s understand why and how the Malays are considered superior to other races? Is it because this country belongs to them as they claimed to be land owners of this nation? Or is it because of the PM is of the Malay origin? Or is it UMNO is the more dominating component party than the rest?
Does this mean that the non-malays can’t even seek clarification from the UMNO leaders or the Malays what they mean by Ketuanan Melayu? Why is that they are so uptight and feel challenged whenever the non-malays question about this issue? Why can’t they just explain this “Ketuanan Melayu” concept for once and for all than bullying others?

More Fatwas

I do not want to be seen as belittling the Fatwa Council but I received this in my mail. Just wanna share with rest what possible decree
( fatwa) may come out of the council soon! Some paragraphs were deleted for sensitivity content. ( mesti safe guard mah)

Fatwa-fatwa yang akan datang adalah seperti berikut :

Disember 2008

Jun 2009
Orang Islam dilarang meminum root beer.

When there are so many important things remain to be done, why must the Fatwa folks spend their time on little things.. tomboys, yoga, etc, etc. Why don't we ever hear any Fatwa on social justice, eradicating corruption and poverty, protecting single mothers, helping the poor, educating the ummah, protecting the environment or ensuring fairness in society?

If you are a rationale, forward thinking Muslim, please speak up. If you choose to remain silent, it only means that you agree with whatever is happening. We do not want to sound like we are interfering with Islam and the fatwa council as we recognize that it is not a non-muslim issue yet we think that there are some more important issues that the council can address!

Yoga Declared Un-Islamic

Yoga is banned – Finally! I am glad that this finally came to an end as I have a long list of things for the council.

Yoga practice that involve physical movements, worshiping and chanting - is officially prohibited in Islam, the National Fatwa Council declared today. Council chairperson Dr Abdul Shukor Husin said although the physical aspect of yoga, excluding worshiping and chanting, might not be wrong in Islam, the exercise should be avoided by Muslims as "doing one thing could lead to another". I guess that makes him the official bookkeeper and lawmaker for God!

"We discourage Muslims from practising yoga as a form of exercise because it will ultimately lead to religious worshiping and chanting which is against Islam.
He is right though as everyone who is doing yoga will be forced to chant “ AUM”, and “Shanti, Shanti AUM” and reckon that many Malays who practice yoga would be deviated hence the decree holds ground.

He further added that "In Islam, one must not do things which can erode one’s aqidah or faith. Doing yoga, even just the physical movements, is a step towards an erosion of one’s faith in the religion, hence Muslims should avoid it," he told reporters in Putrajaya. "There are many other forms of exercise that Muslims can partake in, especially as the religion promotes healthy living and lifestyle. Performing prayers, for example, is a good form of exercise," he said.

So my Muslim friends please listen to council and pray more often as it will keep you folks healthy. The council should do detail research to find out what form of exercise were practiced during the prophets (bpuh) life time and encourage Muslims worldwide to follow as well.

I agree with Dr.Abdul Shukor that Muslims should not be involved in Yoga as they will loose their faith and become Hindu eventually which is considered “murtad” in Islam. Hence forth the council should not stop at Yoga alone as there are many other activities that are certainly un-Islamic!

The list below for their consideration:

1) Tai chi, which has its roots in Buddism which is connected to Hinduism.
2) Qi Qong has bit of Buddhism & animistic
3) How Pilates, gym workout s they encourage body hugging clothing
4) Silat certainly has non Islamic elements
5) Keris has Hindu origin ( apparently it become a symbol for the Malays)
6) How about Malay marriage ceremony;bersanding?
7) How about “ adat cukur kepala”
8) How about “ Duli yang Maha Mulia Seri Paduka Baginda”! ( very much Indian in origin)

I guess the Fatwa Council will be very busy issuing edicts for a long time. More Public funds please!

Altantuya Case Solved

This is what Razak Baginda said during his 50 minute press statement.

"I implore all of you and the public to stop spreading lies about Najib and his wife. I know Najib and his wife had never met the deceased, Altantuya.

Asked to comment on why when he was charged in November 2006, his wife Mazlinda Makhzan (right) reportedly shouted hysterically "Why charged my husband, he does not want to be the prime minister" Abdul Razak replied that his wife was under duress then.

She must be really stressed that she blurted that statement, I reckon Razak Baginda must have secretly confessed to his wife of his intention to become the PM.So in the midst of chaos she vomited some dark secret.

On P Balasubramaniam’s (right) statutory declarations first alleging then retracting that Najib knew Altantuya, the political analyst said the matter was still under police investigations and he had also been interviewed by police on his release on the same issue.

"What I have said to you is what I told the police, Najib has never met the deceased."

Why is he not answering the question? Rather elusive and kept reiterating that Najib is innocent.

Hypothesis # 1: Baginda is not involved.

Hypothesis # 2 :Najib and Rosmah had never met Altantuya.

Hypothesis # 3: It had nothing to do with an arms deal. Baginda only met Altantuya later.

Hypothesis # 4 : Bloggers have been spreading lies.

Conclusion : The two policemen were involved the Altantuya case as they may have had a secret relationship with Altantuya. They been told to enter defence. Bala was also blackmailing Altantuya after knowing her secret relations with the low ranking officer. He was so ashamed of his action in blackmailing a poor mongolian woman he decided to go into hiding with his whole family. She flew over from Mongolia to confront them but they may have refused her demand. Finally she was so heart broken and committed suicide using C4! How interesting that there are still some Juliet's in this current world. So case TUTUP!

Facts that the Indians are marginalised in Malaysia!

Helen Ang | Nov 20, 08 12:48pm

This article is written by Helen Ang in Malaysiakini and I have add my thoughts to the article. THe BN government led by UMNO is consciously hidding the truth! Read more.

Some weeks ago on Nov 4, the New Straits Times carried the headline ‘Zaid lucky to be born a Malay, says Syed Hamid’. Former law minister Zaid Ibrahim had said in his LawAsia 2008 conference speech on Oct 31: "The obsession with the Ketuanan Melayu doctrine has in fact destroyed something precious in us.

"It makes us lose our sense of balance and fairness."

The statement unsurprisingly caused Umno warlords to go berserk.

On Tuesday, Malaysiakini had the article titled: ‘Ramasamy unfazed by police report’. Umno Youth wants to sic its attack dogs on Penang second Deputy Chief Minister P Ramasamy for revealing glaring under-representation of non-Malays in government service.

Anyone who walks into the state administrative building of Komtar can see for himself the truth of Ramasamy’s words that even in Penang where the population is half Chinese, the civil service is overwhelmingly Malays.

Lets look at some facts from the Seberang Perai Municipal Council website its list of office holders as below:

Datuk Mohd Aris Ariffin (MPSP municipal president), Fauziah Ariffin (Aris's special asst), Zainol Abidin Md Noh (municipal sec), Siti Aishah Kassim (SUP's special asst), Noraziah Abdul Aziz (director, admin & HR), Mohd Ibrahim Mohd Nor (asst director, HR), Norhayati Sulaiman (asst director, R & D), Latifah Razali (asst director, acquisition & supply), Siti Haslinda Hasan (asst director, training & quality), Maskiah Abdullah (counter officer), Asma Othman (auditor), Lee Moong Nah (director, IT), Hassan Hashim (info systems officer), Abdul Fikri Ridzauudin Abdullah (info systems officer), Mansor Hashim (legal director), Rosnada Abu Hassan (asst director, legal), Munir Affan (asst director, enforcement & security), Mohd Hairay Mohd Yusof (finance director), Shahrulnizad Abdul Razak (finance asst director), Ummi Kalthum Shuib (finance asst director), Dr Romli Awang (health & urban services director), Fadzilah Hasan (director, licensing), Mohd Faidzal Hassan (asst director, licensing), Kamaruddin Che Lah (engineering director), Khirul Annuar Shamsudin (asst engineering director), Baderul Amin Abd Hamid (asst engineering director), Rosnani Mahmud (asst engineering director), Mohd Syukri Said (asst engineering director), Mohd Sobri Che Hassan (asst engineering director), Muhamad Kamaruddin (asst engineering director), Md Pilus Md Noor (building director), Abdul Rahman Harun (asst building director), Ahmad Fuad Hashim (town planning director), Norliza Abdullah (asst town planning director), Mohd Ridzal Abdul (asst town planning director), Kamariah Ramli (asst town planning director), Azian Ahmad (asst town planning director), Dahalan Fazil (asst town planning director), Rozali Mohamud (valuation director), Mat Nasir Hassan (asst valuation director), Ahmad Syahrir Jaafar (asst valuation director), Wan Junaidy Yahaya (community director).

What do the names above tell you? Yet there are those who complain that the fate of Malays in Penang is like disenfranchised Palestinians languishing in their homeland.

Umno claims Malays are dispossessed.

The truth is Umno tortures statistics. Numbers are ‘turned over’ to confess a story protecting the party’s interest. When the statistics show another side, Umno bullies.

It threatens, it appeals to the police and uses media, it compels the numbers to retreat from public view, for example when then Deputy Finance Minister Dr Awang Adek Hussin told Parliament in November 2006 that bumiputera shares equity ownership in Bursa M’sia was 36.6 percent but the figure was retracted six days later.

Threat to national security?

Late last year before the authorities detained the Hindraf five under ISA, it spun statistics to portray the Indian community as successful and therefore, ingrates to be thus whining.

Not too long ago, prior to the Home Ministry banning Hindraf, they did the same again, and our mainstream media were complicit in aiding and abetting the government to demonise the movement.

Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar deliberately skewed his reading of the figures to dismiss how on the whole, Indians are indeed a marginalised community.Jayanath Appudurai passed Helen a copy of his monograph Malaysian Indians: Looking Forward, co-written in 2008 with G.A. David Dass which analyses more data.

I thin the official statistics available in the public domain is incomplete. While the surveys and studies are adequate, their findings are not released transparently.

As corroborated by the figures Ramasamy cited, the top tier of civil servants in any government department comprises a cabal belonging to one particular race solely.

Jayanath spents about half a year on research, piecing together peripheral statistics to complete the picture by looking from side angles. It is a sad portrait our authorities-in-denial refuse to paint in full.

Name-calling Chinese and Indians ‘pendatang’ conveys the impression that the minorities have only just stepped off a slow boat from China and India.

The Tamil labour migration in fact began in 1786 with the establishment of the crown colony of Penang. They were brought in to work the plantations and build the infrastructure. At Independence in 1957, Indians were 11.3 percent of the population. In 2005, they were 7.5 percent. By 2020, it is forecast they will constitute less than 6.5 percent.

In 1957, about 70 percent of the Indian labour force was in the plantation and mining sectors.

In 1970, 46.5 percent were in agriculture. In 2000, only 11.1 percent remained in agriculture while 62 percent were in the manufacturing and services sectors.

A Canada-published research by N.J. Colletta called the plantation Indian labour force ‘Malaysia’s forgotten people’. When the estates were fragmented, its workers were forced to relocate to urban dwellings, such as the squatter area of Kampung Medan.

"There is a perception that the majority of Malaysian Indians are mired in a proletarian urban under-class," writes Jayanath.

"Undeniably there has been a fundamental shift of the Malaysian Indians labour from primarily tapping rubber in the estates to soldering chips in the factories, sweeping drains, cleaning toilets, supervising car parks and driving lorries in urban areas," he observes.

I’ve a personal anecdote from my schooldays to relate. A prefect – an Indian boy from my cohort – could not get a place in local public university and went on to supervise his dad’s car park. My ex-schoolmate could well have been one of the statistics.

Coming out of the woodwork

Zaid is lucky to be born a Malay, said Syed Hamid. I say Malaysia has done Indians a great disservice by begrudging its acknowledgment that they have worked hard and contributed much to building this country.

Malaysia is compounding this disservice by not uplifting its poor Indian citizens according to need; this due to affirmative action programmes being race-biased.

At present, we’re in the 9th Malaysia Plan phase 2006-2010. The NEP started in 1970 resulting from May 13, 1969.

The New Economic Policy morphed into the National Development Policy (NDP) which is associated with the Second Outline Perspective Plan or OPP (1991–2000). NDP got new clothes as NVP or National Vision Policy coinciding with the Third Outline Perspective Plan (2001–2010) or the Emperor’s ‘Vision 2020’.

The general trend during the 8MP period was that the rich got richer and the poor poorer.

Malaysia fares among the region’s worst along the Gini coefficient indicator with great inequality in income between the top and bottom earners.

9MP makes no specific mention on addressing Indian poverty, which was calculated at 3.5 percent in 1999.

By 2004, the number of impoverished Indian households had increased to 13,300, up 600 from five years prior. Jayanath concluded that by the government’s own definition of poverty, Indians have become progressively poorer.

Annual growth rate of Indians is lagging behind Bumiputera and Chinese. Before NEP, Indians as a whole – there are so many Indian doctors and lawyers, says Syed Hamid – were earning a little more than the national mean, but after four decades of NEP and in the noughties, the gap closed and Indians earned less.

OPP stats say the income disparity ratio between total Malaysian and Indians was 1:1.15 in 1970, and 1:1.06 in 2004.

Since we’re toggling with numbers, please note our government was insisting that Bumiputera equity had remained fossilised at the magic-sakti percentage of 18.9 percent. The purported under-achieving bumiputera share of the economic pie seems to have shrunk with the passing years ... if Umno is to be believed.

It is only now with Pakatan Rakyat in power in five states that the hitherto obscured data is slowly beginning to come out into the open.

And it took a deputy chief minister from the federal Opposition, no less, and he a former professor who had done research first-hand to shine some light into the dark corners.

Official data has long been hidden because it not agreeable to Umno for us to know.

This is why I repeatedly mentioned in my blog that Malaysia need change for the sake of Malay survival in this competitive world!

Origins of the Malay Race

I read this article in MT about the origins of the Malay race. Some excerpts reproduced for your reading pleasure.

"Contesting Malayness - Malay Identity Across Boundaries" Edited by Timothy P. Barnard published by Singapore University Press? Written by a Professor of National University of Singapore. It reflects the Anthropologists views that there is no such race as the "Malays" to begin with. If we follow the original migration of the Southern Chinese of 6,000yrs ago, they moved into Taiwan, (now the Alisan), then into the Phillipines (now the Aeta) and moved into Borneo (4,500yrs ago) (Dayak). They also split into Sulawesi and progressed into Jawa, and Sumatera. The final migration was to the Malayan Peninsular 3,000yrs ago. A sub-group from Borneo also moved to Champa in Vietnam at 4,500yrs ago.

So the million Dollar Question... Is there really a race called the "Malays"?
All anthropologists DO NOT SEEM TO THINK SO. (strangely, this includes all Malay Malaysian Anthropologists who are of the same opinion.)Neither do the "Malays" who live on the West Coast of Johor. They'd rather be called Javanese. What about the west coast Kedah inhabitants who prefer to be known as "Achenese"? or the Ibans who simply want to be known as IBANS. Try calling a Kelabit a "Malay" and see what response you get... you’ll be so glad that their Head-Hunting days are over.

By definition, (this is super eye-opening) there was a Hindu-Malay Empire in Kedah. Yes, I said right… The Malays were Hindu (just like the gentle Balinese of today). It was known by its’ old name, Langkasuka. Today known as Lembah Bujang. This Hindu-Malay Empire was 2,000yrs old. Pre-dating Borrobudor AND Angkor Watt. Who came about around 500-600yrs later. Lembah Bujang was THE mighty trading Empire, and its biggest influence was by the Indians who were here to help start it. By definition, this should make the Indians BUMIPUTERAS too since they were here 2,000yrs ago! Why are they marginalized?

The only other logical explanation, which I have heard, was that “Malaya” came as a derivative of “Himalaya”, where at Langkasuka, or Lembah Bujang today was where the Indians were describing the locals as “Malai” which means “Hill People” in Tamil!

To read more go to the link below, it would be an eye opener!

Malaysian University Ranking made us proud!

We should be proud that for the second consecutive year, Malaysia had fallen completely out of the list of the world's Top 200 Universities this year in the 2008 Times Higher Education Supplement (THES) - Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings. Bravo, congrats for screwing up!

There is not a single university in the 2008 THES-QS Top 200 Universities list, there is also not a single university in the separate ranking of Top 100 Universities for five subject areas – Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities; Life Sciences and Biomedicine; and Technology. Malaysia BOleh!

Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Universiti Malaya (UM) were in the 2006 Ranking, placed No. 185 and 192 respectively. UKM plunged to 309 last year and improved to 250 this year while UM fell to 246 last year improving slightly to 230 this year – but both remain outside the Top 200 Universities ranking.

The government named Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) as the Apex University but it has a dismal international rankings after being included once in the Top 200 Universities list – No. 111 in 2004, No. 326 in 2005, 277 in 2006, No. 307 in 2007 and No. 313 in 2008.

It is both sad and pathetic that our Apex University, the USM, at No. 313 ranking, is not only left far behind in South East Asia by Singapore (National University of Singapore No. 30 and Nanyang Technological University No. 77) but also by Thailand (Chulalongkorn University No. 166), Indonesia (University of Indonesia No. 287) and the Philippines (Ateneo de Manila University No. 254 and University of the Philippines No. 276).

Heh...heh kita kalah dengan Thailand, Indonesia dan Filipina. Why are we even suprised with the results, remember sometime ago our Higher Education Minister defended that the criteria used by THES is different and that is the reason why our universities did not qualify! What a joke, as i reckon either he did not attend any local university nor interested to check the quality of lecturers that they hire.

If our universities are top notch universities why is that the sons & daughters’ of our minister are studying overseas? If they strongly think that ours are on par with rest of the world shouldn't they send their children to local university namely UiTM!

Just look at the appointment of VC's isn't it based on race, needless to say about the lecturers. It doesn't take a scientist to figure out, its just that they do not want to face reality. I had the privilege of being taught by foreign lecturers at a local university and what a different league they were compared to the some local Malay lecturers. There were some good Malay lecturers whom I regard highly but for the rest of them they are there because of their race and not for their intelligence. One of them then was a recent PHD holder from UK taught us Marketing paper and on the very first day he said" I could not speak good English so I will teach in Malay" and guess what we had many foreign students in the class. I heard he is the head of the Management Faculty now and I can just wish the students and the university all the best. Now tell me why are we surprised that we are tumbling down in world ranking. Needless to worry the minister will make another intelligent statement soon to justify why! As I said before, only in Boleh Land!

Is it for real?

Two shocking news today!

Raja Petra Kamarudin was released from his Internal Security Act (ISA) detention and the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today ruled in favour of Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim and decided that his sodomy trial would be heard in the same court.
Is this for real? I can’t believe it, is it happening in Malaysia? Or is it is just a fuss to get public support before another startling news.

Anyway I am glad that Raja Petra is free at last as he is one Malay gentleman I hold high respect as he calls a spade a spade and not by any other name and has educated the non-muslims on the true meaning of Islam and not what it is claimed to be over here.

Anwar was the light of hope what democratic Malaysia could possibly be, as he propagates ketuanan rakyat instead of ketuanan Melayu. His ideology attracted both non-malays and malays alike as the country is heading into political uncertainty. The people of USA has started the ball rolling when they elected their President from a minority race and moved beyond the barriers of color, creed and race in deciding their leader which has been a disease for 200 hundred years. The UMNO let government should take heed from them and drop their pants in championing Malay supremacy for their own political agenda.

How long will they use May 13th as an issues of threat against the non-malays, seriously what have they achieved in doing so. They still claim that the Malays are lagging behind compared to the Chinese and others. Since that is claimed to be true shouldn’t they be asking why the Malays are behind economically? Even with the affirmative NEP plan the Malays are still not at par with the non-malays. Shouldn’t the leaders be looking into the reason why their plan and strategy failed rather than continuing with the ineffective NEP! Why aren’t the Malays themselves question their UMNO leader and why are they still voting for the same incompetent leader to lead both the community the country? I really wonder why and guess will never get the answer!

Anyway RPK is back and he said "This showed ISA cannot be used. I hope this is not a political decision. I don't want to be the prime minister. I want Anwar to be the PM".

Does that mean the take over plan is still on schedule? That’s interesting, come-on RPK, tell us more!

Now anyone can be the PM!

Our Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi never ceases to amaze me even at his end of his tenure as PM. He mentioned in a recent statement that ‘anyone can be prime minister' in Malaysia! Doesn’t this just tickle our rib?

Is it possible that an individual from a minority race - either an Indian, Chinese, Iban or Kadazan etc, - be accepted as a PM when the simple appointment of a Chinese woman to be the just an acting general manager of PKNS created such a ruckus? He didn’t even lift his finger when there was a hue and cry over the appointment more so to wet his lips. Now he has the audacity to tell us that 'anyone can be PM’.

Take the case in Perak for instance after the recent general election when DAP won the majority of the state seats? Instead of a Chinese assembly person from the major winning party being given the menteri besar’s post it was instead given to Malay assembly person whose party only won a few seats. They even dragged the Sultan into this issue and now he is saying that anyone can become the PM, who is he kidding?
Malaysia has a long way to go before it can emulate what Barack Obama has achieved in America because for the simple fact that Umno and their Malay leaders are too deeply entrenched in their Ketuanan Melayu, period. They are considered untouchables thus even the mere mention of the weaknesses of the policy draws wrath from the Umno leadership. Former Law minister Zaid Ibrahim was called a traitor and many derogating names by the Malays and UMNO leaders. Would these jokers change thus will a Zebra change stripes?

Americans have the shown to the world that they have moved beyond politics based on race and that even a minority race member can become their president. Unfortunately, in Malaysia we are still mired in racial and religious bigotry. Instead of uniting the various races with a multi-racial policy, they have instead embraced a divide-and-rule policy. So can a non Malay ever become the PM of Malaysia, well that is my dream definitely not UMNO’s!

A Historical Win by Obama!

Democrat candidate Barack Obama has been elected as the United States first black president following his historic win over his Republican rival John McCain. The 47-year-old father of two, who will be inaugurated as the 44th US president on Jan 20, 2009, has however inherited an economy mired in the worst financial crisis since the 1930s, two wars in Afghanistan and Iraq and a nuclear showdown with Iran.

Obama garnered 338 against McCain's 163 of the 538 electoral college votes. He won 62 million voters (52 percent), while McCain has 55 million voters (47 percent).
Obama's historic inauguration will complete a stunning ascent to the pinnacle of US and global politics from national obscurity just four years ago and close an eight-year era of turbulence under President George W Bush.

What others say about Obama’s historical win being the first ever coloured President of USA.

“The Americans have voted in a president based on character and the principles of rule of law, equality, human rights, justice and democracy, rather than colour of skin,” he said.

"The support that president-elect Obama draws from across racial, religious and generational lines parallels the sentiments felt by Malaysians from all walks of life who earlier this year cast votes in vehement opposition to the failed policies of an incumbent regime,"

"Obama's victory is seen as bringing change and hope to the world."

I reckon that there would have been many more accolades for Obama thus being the first non-white president of the US.

Will the winds of change ever sweep our nation which is infested with racial bigots who are raping this nation for their political agenda or rather their survival?

Will Malaysia ever see our very own leader of the future to be elected for their credential, principles and not for their colour of their skin! This may be a distant dream yet it happened in the US as it took 200 years for them.

I and you may not be alive to see that a reality but the future generation may cherish the moments as the US people of today. Let’s keep the dream alive as it is a pleasant dream indeed!

There goes our EPF money!

Recently you may have read that the PM is waiting made a decision to loan 5 billion to Valuecap Sdn.Bhd after taking the Finance Ministry portfolio as capital injection to revive the sliding stock exchange. So what is wrong about it? Our leader is only doing what is right to save the economy from falling further. Any level minded leader with a heart would do what is natural for the rakyat.

Wait a minute some say they smell a rat some where!

According to Malaysiakini, the recent RM5 billion injection into Valuecap was not intended as "additional" investment to support the flailing stock market as suggested by new Finance Minister Najib Abdul Razak.

Instead it was a rescue package for Valuecap to repay its original multi-billion ringgit debt, which is due in February next year ( 2009).

Citing documents, the website said that Valuecap's bonds were due to be repaid in February 2006, but the company was given another three years.

Tony Pua mentioned in Malaysiakini that "Clearly in this case, the purpose of the RM5 billion ‘loan' from EPF to Valuecap as instructed by the finance minister is a clear case of a mega bail-out of Valuecap whose investment lifespan has already ended nearly three years ago!

This is interesting, why would Najib made that decision when Valuecap cannot even pay back the initial loan during bullish economy and how the hell are they going to salvage this 5 billion during the global economic meltdown. When you can’t even perform during good times how are you going to make it during challenging times. I guess the government is applying the “ Malaysia Boleh” spirit to show to the world how the Malaysian leaders are far better than their counter parts in overcoming the economic crisis!

Don’t we just love the Malaysia Boleh spirit! I am withdrawing my account two (2) immediately!

Razak Baginda Acquitted

I guess you may have read or heard about Abdul Razak Baginda was acquitted today by the court as the prosecution has failed to prove a case against Abdul Razak! Justice Mohd Zaki Md Yasin also mentioned that he find there is no prima facie case for Abdul Razak to answer his charge and therefore acquitted and discharged!

Well while having dinner today someone broke the above news to me and went on to say that there is no justice in this country. I guess it was in the writing from the begining for two reasons namely this case was dragged for too long, to be exact 151 days and some high profile individuals were also implicated to this case.

Malaysiakini quoted that the court however ordered chief inspector Azilah Hadri, 32 and corporal Sirul Azhar Umar, 37 - from the elite Special Action Force (UTK) which guards the prime minister and deputy prime minister - to enter their defence to the charge of murder.

Let's ponder for a while and ask some right questions?

1) Why are they ordered to enter defence for murder
2) What were their motives behind Altantuya's murder and how do they benefit from her death
3) Why is that the elite Special Action Force which guards the PM and the Deputy were involved in this case?

Will the “rakyat” ever know the truth? I guess the truth is some where out there!

Zaid: Ketuanan Melayu has failed

Read today an article in Malaysiakini by Zaid Ibrahim former defacto Law Minister that the concept of 'Ketuanan Melayu' model has failed, in an incisive speech at the LawAsia 2008 conference in Kuala Lumpur this morning.

"It has resulted in waste of crucial resources, energy and time and has distracted from the real issues confronting the country," said Zaid, who criticised the race-based policy despite being a member of the ruling Umno party which was set up to safeguard Malay interests.

Does it really matter?

I have not been writing as much as I want to due to some development at home front, anyway nice to be back.

Recently there was a protest in Selangor where six staff bodies of state agency Selangor Development Corporation (PKNS) objected to the appointment of a senior official as acting general manager on grounds that she is Chinese. They even stated that as PKNS conducts activities that are spiritual in nature, its leader must understand and practice Islamic values. In other words it must be a Malay!

I guess we can take a monkey out of Africa but not Africa out of the monkey!

Does it really matter what race the individual is shouldn't it be it be based on the right person doing the job.

Why is the government looking for candidate based on race rather than track record and performance? Shouldn't this officer be sacked for question the decision of the MB? While that world is heading for an economic melt down these jokers are talking about which race should head a state and the federal government.

The late American president John F Kennedy who picked cabinet members who were the ‘best and the brightest’ of whatever colour or creed or religion or gender. He wanted the best people to run the US government. We also should be open-minded and pick the best for our nation and not being selfish with narrow minded interests.

It was not long ago that UMNO leaders were crying loud demanding that the CEO and managing director of MAS should be a Malay! Why is that UMNO cares that it must be a bumiputera or a Malay if this is not driven by racial agenda? Shouldn't we be driven by a national agenda? The PM of past and present as usual during festive seasons of non-bumiputeras would praise in public how the " pendatangs" contributed in nation building but when it comes to appointments of key positions, that notion takes a back step and race being the front runner! Shouldn't they be thinking that the most important point is that we should choose the right person with the right talent for the right position?

Where are we in the sports now i.e football, hockey as once we use to be on par or even better than Korea and Japan and where are they now? Look at our 18 public universities and look at their rankings in the world. The best Malaysian university, University Malaya, is ranked 246. The joke is that the education ministry is justifying that the criteria used were different but we have the best teaching staff and facilities. I may agree with the facilities claim but best teaching staff, that is questionable. When I was attending my MBA at a local university, a PHD lecturer could not utter proper English even after spending great number of years abroad doing his PHD! I leave it to your imagination on the lecturers ethnicity. Worst still I was told recently that he is the dean of that faculty! I wish them all the best in striving to be the top 100 in future.

Don't you think that we should drop this crutch-mentality and head-hunt for the best vice- chancellors, the best professors, the best lecturers and equip the universities with the best materials and take in the best students ( yes best students and not based on race or backdoor entrance to universities), if we want to be in the top ten of the world’s rankings.

Encore Hamid

Read this from Malaysiakini about how Hamid lied in the Parliament!

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 22 - Hindraf sympathisers today handed over a document to the Opposition coalition which they claimed to be evidence of a senior minister providing false information in the Dewan Rakyat.

The group of 20, led by R.S. Thanenthiran, who was the national coordinator for the recently outlawed Indian rights movement, met up with several Pakatan Rakyat MPs including senior DAP MP for Ipoh Timur Lim Kit Siang and PKR MP for Subang R. Sivarasa at Parliament House today.

In a press conference, Thanenthiran told reporters that Home Minister Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar had"misled Parliament and misled the nation" when he announced in July this year in the House that he had not revoked the international passport of Hindraf's self-exiled leader P. Waytha Moorthy who is now in London.

"We have solid evidence he lied," Thanenthiran claimed, referring to Syed Hamid.

Distributing copies of a letter to the MPs as well as to the press, Thanenthiran said they were part of an email commucation dated September 23 2008 that Waytha Moorthy's lawyers had received purportedly from the "UK Border Agency" in response to their client's queries.

Thanenthiran pointed out that the what the letter said was contrary to what Syed Hamid had said.
He also said Waytha Moorthy's sympathisers had lodged 42 police reports against Syed Hamid to date.
They want the authorities to detain the Home Minister and to investigate him for statements linking Hindraf to international terrorist groups.
They called on the government to return Waytha Moorthy's passport to him as it is his personal property and to lift the Home Minister's ban on Hindraf.
"Hindraf is one organisation that really wants progress," Thanenthiran said.
"Return to Waytha Moorthy his rights as a Malaysian citizen," he added.
The Hindraf sympathisers had arrived in four vehicles including a taxi at about 11.30am. They left without much untoward incident about one hour later.

However, upon their exit from the Parliament compound, they were stopped by police who took down their MyKad details and inspected their vehicles.

They were not arrested.

Earlier upon arrival, the group had freed several pigeons in the Parliament compound in a symbolic gesture asking the government to release the five Hindraf members detained under the Internal Security Act.

So, Hamid what you gotcha say to this?

The Hundraf of UMNO

I read this article in MT By Helen Ang and found that it was well written and wish to share with all.

There is no typing error above; I did spell ‘Hundraf’ for Human Rights Action Force. Hundraf is the twin spirit of Makkal Sakthi, an expression translated as People Power, not Indian Power.
Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar is reported by Bernama as saying the Indians are not neglected in Malaysia. What he implied is that Indians have little cause for complaint and thus the complaining Hindraf have no basis for their struggle.

Syed Hamid in announcing the ban on Hindraf said the Indian community was quite well represented with 14 Members of Parliament, 21.4% in the legal fraternity, 18.4% in medicine and their income was 1.2 times higher than the Malays.

Out of his count of 14 Indian MPs, only three are from MIC compared to six from DAP. There are three from PKR and one from PSM — Samy-slayer of Sg Siput, the redoubtable Dr Jeyakumar Devaraj. If Indians are ‘well represented’, it is no thanks to BN. (I could only recognise 13 Indian names, maybe I missed someone or perhaps there is a Malay Dilemma-ed MP in the House.)

Regarding the statistics Syed Hamid cited, may I ask how many Indian lawyers and doctors got their degrees from Malaysian public universities? And secondly, how many had their education paid for by the state?

This is what blog commentator Parameswara tells me about one of the Hindraf-5 lawyers: “To my knowledge. R. Kengadharan the eldest son of a postal worker and housewife, completed his law studies on the meagre proceeds of a single storey house that was hocked to a financial institution to procure a study loan. Having returned from his studies, he not only paid off the loan but educated his siblings through the same house and earning from his law practice.”

And DAP’s Tony Pua says of another Hindraf-5 lawyer V. Ganabathirau:

“Gana never manage to have the privilege of completing his education at one go. After finishing Form 5, he had to take up various odd jobs to help support himself and his family. That however, did not prevent him from investing his earnings and taking up part-time courses to pursue his ambition of becoming an officer of the court. His dream came true in his late twenties when he graduated with a law degree from the University of London external programme.”Those who hold external or foreign degrees are required to additionally have the Certificate of Legal Practice, a hard-to-pass Malaysian exam designed to block entry into the profession.

SPIN ON STATISTICS

Syed Hamid conveniently forgot other professional fields where Indians are under-represented. From the same table of statistics that he drew his figures, here’s what the Minister omitted: Of architects, 45.3% are bumiputera, 1.4% are Indian. Of engineers, 46.0% are bumiputera, 5.4% are Indian.

I have statistics as well: While Indians accounted for 9.8% of civil servants in the 1980s, they were 5.2% in 2003. Malays are fast increasing in numbers in the skilled professions and dominating government and GLC posts, while the Indians are regressing in proportionate numbers.

And more statistics: In the present Abdullah cabinet, there is one Indian out of 27 Ministers — 3.7%. The Indian share in 2004 of corporate wealth (ownership of capital at par value) is 1.2%.

Now with regard to those living under the poverty line, Syed Hamid said Indians comprised 2.9%, Chinese 0.6% and Malays 8.3%. Again, he has deliberately obscured the truth. He said ‘Malays’. Wrong, it’s bumiputera 8.3%. These figures come from the Ninth Malaysia Plan. The poorest, least helped among bumiputera are the Orang Asli of the peninsula and the indigenes of Sabah and Sarawak who are not Muslim.

How did the statistics measure ‘poor’?

Over 300,000 Indians have been displaced in the last two decades after they lost their jobs in the plantations. In 2005, it was reported that more than 30% of Indians did not own a house. Indians are squatters in urban centres or the periphery; Indian vagrants sleep in the street — you have seen them.

The poverty line income used for 2004 in Peninsular Malaysia was RM663 per month for urban areas, and RM657 for rural areas. The Department of Statistics, ior year 2000, reported that out of approximately 1.68 million Indians, some 80% were urban and the remaining 20% rural.

If one lived in his own house in the kampung, he does not have to pay rent. If one planted vegetables on his land and reared chicken, he spends less on food. The use of household income as a single yardstick (RM663-urban and RM657-rural; the RM6 differential fails to reflect the cost of living gap between the two regions) does not signal the true level of deprivation.

While on paper mean household income may look more for Indians, it is an average jacked up by the earnings of Indian professionals, and Ananda Krishnan. But the figures also indicate class differences within any one community. Just as the Tan Sri Chinese tycoons have absolutely no bearing on my daily life, how much does the monthly income of RM3,456 attributed to Indians reflect their salary overall?

Yayasan Strategic Sosial in 2005 put 30% of Indians in the bottom strata of society, and 20% in the top strata. My analogy would be that for the one doctor and one lawyer Syed Hamid mentioned, you have three low-wage earners in the labourer, cleaner and production worker. Drawing from the same statistical pool dipped by the Minister, while Indians made up 7.5% of Malaysia’s population, they constituted 14.7% in the elementary occupations.

Next, Syed Hamid said the overall income of the Indian was 1.2 times higher than Malay. Heck, if I’m Indian and took home RM3,456 a month, why would I want to go out and demonstrate? So where does the Tamil underclass that is the backbone of Hindraf come from then?

TEMPLES IN A ROW

Are the Indians a community in distress? How about looking at this set of social indicators? There were 2,555 suicides nationwide [Health Ministry report cited by NST in Sept, 2005], and 21.1 suicides per 100,000 Indians, 2.6 per 100,000 Malays. They are killing themselves in despair, it would seem.

Syed Hamid further claimed that there is a ratio of one temple to 149 Hindus and one mosque to 2,300 Muslims in this country. Aaah, the good Minister must have gone around the country tallying the little Hindu shrines under trees and altars lodged in rock crevices. I hope these ‘temples’ — one for every 149 Hindus — are marked on maps because tourists may like to visit them.

He also equated action against Hindraf to action taken against Al-Arqam, Al-Ma'unah and Kumpulan Militan Malaysia in the past, saying “The government's priority is to protect the security of Malaysians”.

As a Malaysian, I do not feel threatened by the Muslims of Al-Arqam as I know the Malays to be a race full of kindness and budi bahasa. And as for the KMM, Syed Hamid as Home Minister should sign the order for their immediate release from ISA; prove their militancy in open court. Otherwise, I could think that Syed Hamid has committed fitnah, a grave sin in Islam, to allege his fellow ummah are militants.

Lastly, Syed Hamid said the government “cannot tolerate groups that propagate extremism and stir up racial and religious tension” and accused them of having “created fear among the people”. Yet it appears to me as if he is describing Umno factions. Is Umno going to be declared illegal soon too?

The PM Cycle

Who shall be the next PM? Would it be Najib or someone else? That is the million dollar question. Did Mahathir shook hands with Najib and is he determining the current political scenario?

He was basting Pak Lah from the beginning thus creating unrest among the UMNO members, blamming Khairy as “ budak tingkat 4” influencing his father in law, and calling Anwar as you know what. Is it because he wants Najib to be the next UMNO President and the PM for some reason.

Didn't he had some doubt about Najib being the next PM but now he is supporting Najib. He may have had a change of heart after his meeting with Najib and he has hrown his support for Najib saying that Najib could not be involved in any scandals and is a capable leader. He went on to say that Najib had good track record under his administration. Wonder what were his achievements during Mahathir's tenure?

Mahathir further reiterated that during his tenure he too was accused of many things but found to be untrue later. Could it also be that an agreement was reached between Najib and Mahathir that Muhkriz be allowed to be the next UMNO youth leader? This is my hypothesis;
1) Najib becomes the PM and Muhyiddin his deputy
2) Muhyiddin may be forced to step down later to make way for Hishamuddin to take over as Deputy PM (poor Muhyiddin)
3) Upon Najib’s retirement we don’t know when Hishammudin will become the PM with Muhkriz as his deputy.
4) Eventually Muhkriz will be the PM
How about that? All in the family circle, only in bolehland!

Hamid again!

I was reading Patrick Teoh's blog and found this article both hilarious and also awed by the intelligence of our beloved Home Affairs Minister. He did it again, double century! Here it goes...

" This morning I almost had a coronary I was laughing so hard. I never for a moment believed that Syed Hamid Albar, Malaysian Minister of Home Affairs and stand-up comedian par excellence could top what he's done in the past few months. But true to his form he did!

The headline of the news story was "KL area 'unsafe', so police base closed".

Alright, I'll let you catch your breath before I continue...................

Okay? Here's the story. A police beat base in the Chow Kit area of downtown Kuala Lumpur was closed down recently. When questioned about it in Parliament our world-class comedian said it was because the beat base was located in an area considered "unsafe". HUH???

Ok, ok, ok....hold your laughter first. There's more.

Why unsafe ah?

It was located in a 'dirty' area where there is a possibility of being exposed to contagious diseases. HUH???

Wait..............here comes the great punchline.................

"The presence of criminals also posed a threat to the safety of the police officers"

HUH??? And this time the clown did his act without even having to be physically present. He just sent in his funnies in a written form!"

So the ministry closed the police base to protect the policemen from "dirty" diseases and due to the presence of criminals. Hello why are they employed as policemen then or why aren't the PDRM and the government not doing anything knowing well that Chow Kit is a notorious area? I guess the rakyat did a great mistake by electing this guy and BN to parliament!

Syed Hamid did it again!

Syed Hamid did it again, with all intelligence or whatever left of it he has banned Hindraf which is an unregistered organization. He cited that the decision to declare Hindraf as an illegal organisation was made following the ministry being satisfied with facts and evidence that showed Hindraf had and was being used for unlawful purposes and posed a threat to public order and morality. Hey Hamid when did you became the Minister of Morality or is it a new portfolio under Pak Lah’s premiership? I guess it may be covered by Utusan Malaysia as they are one and only local media that covers unbiased news. Did any other newspapers cover the recent ministerial changes?

Syed Hamid went on to say that if it is left unchecked, Hindraf would continue to pose a threat to public order, the security and sovereignty of the country as well as the prevailing racial harmony. No wonder that the government also banned UiTM students for marching on the streets recently, arrested Ahmad Ismail under ISA for his famous “ Pendatang” statement against the Chinese and arrested and detained Khir Toyo for falsely accusing Teresa Kok for the azan incident or even the Utusan Malaysia writer who wrote a fictitious character of YB that was killed by a Malay youth was reprimanded unlike other news paper that were let free. Well this is bolehland, anything is possible here where scoundrels, criminals and racist will walk free in Malaysia! Malaysia Boleh.

Coming back to Hindraf, since it is banned now does it mean that people can’t wear an Orange T-shirt or organise prayers at the temple? Would the police arrest them for carrying out such an act? I guess they’ll arrest anyone spotted wearing a Hindraf T-shirt, so beware you have been warned. Long live Hindraf oops… long live Makkal Sakthi (people power)!

The rakyat is suffering

I was unable to update my blog for a while as I was busy with some urgent matters back home. My mum was taken ill last week and we need to rush her to a public hospital even though it was not our preferred choice but two private hospitals could not accept her as one did not have a specialist and the other does not have a bed! Yes it is true and I am not kidding.

My family decided to take our mum to a government hospital and I was surprised by the attention given by the hospital staffs. The doctors and most of the staff were very professional except for two nurses who should not be there in the first place. They should be either transferred out to another ministry or be sacked. They just did not belong in the health ministry or the hospital. I guess there is still some baggage from the past! What ticked me was the waiting period in the hospital. I checked in the emergency ward at 11.30am and had to wait till 5.45pm for my mum to be admitted in the ward as I was told repeatedly that they could not do anything thing as there was not even a single bed available to accommodate my mum. Guess where my mum spent her waiting hours, by the corridor between the emergency room and walkway!

She was at the corridor until 5.45 pm before she was moved to the ward and by the way she was not alone, there were also other patients as well and all of them were from the emergency ward! I wonder how abou those who registered at the usual counter? My mum spent some 6 hours at the corridor while waiting for her bed to be available. This is how the government hospitals are managed, over crowded hospitals with insufficient beds and equipments for patients, stressed out doctors working long hours. Our government would rather recognise some universities from Indonesia but not reputable foreign universities from other countries.

The joke is that our PM is seriously talking about the changes in premiership and endorsing someone to be his successor and futher claiming that he has some unfinished business like his predecessor. Hello, knock..knock the rakyat is suffering and you jokers are running this country like your own backyard.

Why is there a need to buy two submarines and fighter jets and Eurocopters ? What bloody threat is the country facing now? What’s the urgent need for us to purchase them now?

Pak Lah look at the state of government hospitals, fungus problem, aircond system not functioning, unusuable operation roomand lack of doctors. What the @#*& were you doing for the last 5 years? The public road system is bad, public transportation is shitty; cost of living is high even with the fuel price has come down, worst still you’re saying the government can’t lower the consumer product price hike alone. Don’t you always claim that you have the mandate to run the country and why are you pushing the buck elsewhere. Either you perform or step down now and make way for a new government! Let the RAKYAT decide their future.

Superior Race

Race relation and race supremacy has been the utmost discussion in Malaysia politics recently in particular. Ahmad Ismail, Khir Toyo have been in the lime light for speaking up not to challenge the Malay race superiority, dominance and special privileges. Even before both of them trying to champion their race yet this idea and notion of “Ketuaan Melayu” has been around for a while during Razak, Hussien Onn and made worst during Mahathir’s regime. So which is the superior race in the world or is there a superior race?

It was an article in STAR by Veera pandiyan that intrigued me to write this article “ if we trace our lineage back to 60,000 years, we are all Africans”.

I saw this National Geography episode during my days in Spore a long time ago titled , The Journey of Man, hosted by geneticist Dr Spencer Wells, shows that all humans descended from a group that walked out of Africa about 60,000 years ago (or perhaps another 40,000 years earlier, if the opinions of dissenting archaeologists are taken into consideration).

His study is based on DNA the scientific historical link that we carry in our blood and Dr Wells has traced our common DNA to the Y-chromosome of this man, our veritable Adam, who lived in the eastern or southern part of Africa.

He suggests that our early ancestors could have looked like the bush people of the Kalahari, whose facial features make up a composite model of people from all over the world. Archaeologists, however, say the first wave of migration could have occurred about 100,000 years ago, based on fossil records. Earlier this year, three studies that looked at human diversity through genetics, supported Dr Wells’ contention that humans left Africa, walked into Central Asia and fanned out east and west to populate the planet. They also confirmed that the ancestry of many seemingly “purebred” ethnic groups were traceable to more than one continent.
What does all these tell us? We now know that scientifically, there is no such thing as a pure race as not a single characteristic, trait or gene distinguishes members of one “race” from members of another.

Genes influencing skin colour have nothing to with the genes influencing blood types, type of hair or shape of eyes. As Dr Well explains, humans who first evolved in Africa had dark skin because they needed protection in the form of melanin, our natural sunscreen. Those who moved into the northern hemisphere 40,000 years ago did not need such protection and lost some of their pigmentation to allow sunlight to synthesise Vitamin D needed to grow strong bones.“Our differences are only skin deep as we are all African cousins separated by, at the most, some 2,000 generations,” he says.

Throughout human history, the concept of race or the assumed superiority of one over another, have been used to justify territorial wars, hegemony, slavery, ethnic cleansing and other abominations and more so in Malaysia where we have a diverse race and each claiming to be superior than the other.

So there you have it all, we are distantly related cousins from Africa, and there is no such thing as “Ketuanaan Melayu, Cina, India” dan lain lain! The next time someone like Ahmad Ismail barks at you telling that you that you are a “pendatang” just turn to them and say, you must be my distant relative from Africa. So Ahmad Ismail, my cousin how is the family?
